Cuba’s Ex-Cultural Minister Honored in Uruguay

HAVANA TIMES — Cuba’s former minister of Culture, Abel Prieto, was declared a “distinguished visitor in Montevideo” on Thursday by the mayor of the Uruguayan capital, Ana Olivera, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The writer and current adviser to Cuban president Raul Castro will give a presentation entitled “Culture in Cuba Today” at the 35th International Book Fair of Montevideo, which is has been underway since October 3 in the atrium of the administration building of that South American city.

Prieto, who arrived on Wednesday, is an essayist, novelist and the author of the novels El vuelo del gato (1990) and Los viajes de Miguel Luna (2012).

The book fair is being attended by more than 200 writers, journalists and sociologists, as well as some 40 publishers, said the event’s organizers.
