Eduardo Galeano Opens Casa de las Americas Literary Contest

HAVANA TIMES, Jan 16 — Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano opened the 53rd annual Casa de las Americas Literary Awards today in the Che Guevara Hall of that Cuban cultural institution in Havana.

The inauguration welcomed the 22 figures who will make up the jury. They will be taking part in round tables and panels, as well as evaluating some 400 original literary works, with the largest share coming from Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The overall event program — which includes concerts, exhibitions and the presentations of new works — is open to the public free of charge until 26 January, when the winners will be announced.
