Eduardo Galeano to Open Cuba Literary Event

HAVANA TIMES, Dec 26 — Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano will be guest of honor at the 53rd edition of the Casa de las Americas literary awards ceremony and will deliver an address on January 16 to open the event, reported online newsletter La Ventana.

From that day and until January 26, at the Casa de las Americas in Havana and in the city of Cienfuegos, he will assist with the carrying out of a contest, which on this time occasion will involve various theatrical styles, literature for children and youth, and Brazilian and Caribbean literature in French or Creole.

Galeano is the author of several books and is a well-known intellectual in Latin America, where he is considered a deeply seeing chronicler of the times. In Cuba he has maintained a long relationship with the Casa de las Americas, where he won the Premio Casa award in 1975 and 1978.
