Former Cuban Culture Minister Receives French Award

HAVANA TIMES — Writer Abel Prieto, who was Cuba’s Minister of Culture for the last 15 years, was awarded the French Order of Arts and Letters on Tuesday, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

At the French embassy in Havana, Prieto received the award from Ambassador Jean Mendelson, who praised the intense work of the Cuban intellectual.

This laurel, said Mendelson, is awarded to “people who are distinguished for their creation in the arts and literature, and for the contribution they make to the splendor of arts and literature in France and around the world.”
