HAVANA TIMES, April 4 — Cuban filmmaker Ian Padron will open the 13th edition of the Havana Film Festival (April 12-20) with his award-winning film Habanastation, which will be seen for the first time by the New York public, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

After taking the film on tour to Michigan, Miami, Los Angeles and several cities in Europe and Africa, the movie will compete against 11 others in a US competition dedicated to Cuban filmography.

This is the fourth time that Padron is participating in this cinematographic event, where he debuted in 2002 with his short film Motos.

The filmmaker hopes to start another work in August that will feature the famous Cuban cartoon character Elpidio Valdes (created by his father Juan Padron), which for the first time will be played by a real person.
