Int. Poetry/Music Festival Starts Today in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, April 2 — The Eighth International Nicolas Guillen Symposium and Festival of Music and Poetry opens today in Havana with the presence of personalities from seven countries.

Participants will discuss topics such as “The Race Question in Literature and Art,” “Great Anti-racist” Figures” and “Forms of Rebellion in Africa,” reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Events of the Cuban abolitionist movement, such as the Aponte Conspiracy and the repression of members of the Independent Party of Color, will also be addressed.

The opening session will be held at the University of Havana, with representatives from Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Honduras, Canada, the United States and Cuba attending.
