HAVANA TIMES, August 14 – The trip to Cuba and the concert for peace on September 20 is “a sign that it’s time to change mentalities,” affirmed Colombian singer Juanes in statements to the US Univision TV channel.

The artist has been strongly criticized by anti-Castro sectors of the Cuban exile community in the United States, who are against his project of performing in the island’s capital along with several other popular international artists, reported IPS.

The concert will take place in the Plaza of the Revolution and tens of thousands of Cubans can be expected to attend. Juanes was in Cuba recently to explore arrangements for the concert.

  • I agree with what Juanes is saying: That it is time to change mentalities. It’s very dissapointing to learn that Cuban Americans in Miami are very much against the concert. They are forgetting the real ideals behind it. Arts has a way of trenscending politics as it can be a common bond between people and nations.

  • I think Juanes is right Music is music, Politics is another complete different subject.
The cubans that are oppose have the right to their opinion but they do not understand that freedom is the right to choose and to accept other people way of thinking.
Please we are in a democratic society free your minds.

  • Why are exiled Cubans so bent on denying the right of expression to anyone but themselves?

  • Thank you Juanes you are a lovely person, thanks for thinking in people in Cuba that cant go to any type of concert cause many reasons, two of them are money and they cannot go out of the country (liberty locked). Instead of miami cubans been so upset with the idea and the fact that are you going to sing in Havana, they should support you, not for them but for the people in cuba, there own people, the ones who need at least a little bit of distraction and happiness. (and that is what they need, at least for once). Cubans in Miami dont be so rude, mean and ungrateful, Juanes only want to make your people(family, frends) happy. SORRY BUT ALL OF YOU MIAMI CUBANS AND/OR WORLD CUBANS WHO ARE THINKING IN THIS TOTALIST WAY LOOKS LIKE YOU GUYS LEARN A LOT FROM FIDEL CASTRO AND HIS COMMUNIST REGIMEN. GOOD FOR YOU JUANES AND THE ONES WHOS GONNA GO WITH YOU TO THIS COMMUNITY SERVICE CONCERT “PEACE WITHOUT BORDERS.” (MAYBE THIS IS THE BEGINNING FOR THE REAL CHANGE)

  • Juanes, DONT FEAR, God is watching on you!!!

  • I just have to say: Celia Cruz always wanted to go to sing to the Cuban people “the people” she always ask to go and just sing nothing else just to sing, make her people from cuba happy. My question is what happed if she was allowed to sing, only sing for the people, what would be the reaction from cubans from miami and around the world? What would happend if any famous cuban artist is allowed to go to cuba to make their people happy? Their go or just their pride dont let make a few hours their own people happy? PLEASE CUBANS USE COMMON SENSE DONT BE CLOSE MIND, YOU ARE ACTING THE SAME AS FIDEL, WANT NOT TO MAKE THE CUBAN PEOPLE HAPPY.

  • what a concert in the plaza where the dictator organized the guerilla to kill people in colombia and singin with silvio rodriguez that signed a letter to kill jong people
juanes go to cuba and gige a concert for freedon
there is no peace without freedon

  • it is time for these Cuban Americans to get over it.they have dictated US policy towards Cuba for long enough.they do not care about democracy they just want revenge at any cost.i have listened to these people on television and they are full of hate, get over it.

  • Juanes,
Thank you thank you thank you a thousand times for thinking of Cubans as human beings that have the right to enjoy music and art as the rest of the world. People: Is it right to deprive Cubans from everything and on top of it keep them from enjoying a little bit of good honest music?. Give Juanes a break!

  • Funny, “anti-Castro sectors of the Cuban exile community”, not anti-human rights or anti-communist or anti- murderous regimes. Hmmmm….I wonder who wrote this piece.

  • Brainfood,

We all want freedom without borders, but that shouldn’t come at the cost of the economic & political blackmail the US has subjected the people of Cuba to all because it wants to see Cuba as the economic whorehouse of US business “interests”… Good for Juanes, Olga & Miguel for not caving in to the closed-minded naive fascists in Miami!

  • Juanes, the only dignified way to carry on with the concert, is to change its name to “FREEDOM WITHOUT BORDERS”, and urge the Cuban dictatorship to allow freedom of expression and to free the hundreds of prisoners of conscience jailed without trial. Otherwise it’s just a publicity stunt.
