Migrant Children Are Being Mistreated at Fort Bliss

Whistleblowers make known

By Democracy Now

HAVANA TIMES – Two whistleblowers have warned Congress about the dire conditions at the Fort Bliss military base in El Paso, Texas, where the government has set up large tents to hold thousands of unaccompanied migrant children. The whistleblowers say children are held in filthy conditions without adequate mental and health care.

In a statement, one of the whistleblowers, Arthur Pearlstein, said, “Gross mismanagement, waste, and abuse of authority by those at the top who insisted on utmost secrecy led to conditions for thousands of children at Fort Bliss that can only be described as constituting mistreatment.” Pearlstein is a director at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

  • When i had to babysit 4 children I was at my wit’s end, and I ASKED to do the job .. keeping diapers changed, entertaining, drying tears, fixing scrapes,….
‘And the author of this article is indignant that a military base is not able to care for thousands…
This has been happening for past few years in the USA , children separated, children not getting warm beds at night.. not just this year.
Well help out the Central Americans , drop the embargo on Cuba and hire more staff at the border..
And send all the children back to their warm beds at home where they get lots of TLC from parents and better food, and entertainment and school. Why would parents allow them to come to a country that cannot manage the kids is beyond me.

  • Their Health is provided with good Food & a Clean Place to Sleep that most would likely never had before. Scared Straight yes for most. Could things be any better sure if their world they came from was not so Violent.

  • Democracy Now, are you from Mars? What military base in the world is prepared to have thousands of abandoned children dumped in their lap. The military is a war machine not a child care facility.
