More Than Three Million Cubans Participated May Day

HAVANA TIMES, May 2 — More than three million Cubans – over a quarter of the entire population – marched on May 1 across the 15 provinces of the island during parades organized to celebrate International Workers Day, reported the Cuban Communist Party through its official Granma newspaper.

The largest concentration was in Havana’s Revolution Square, the site of the main ceremony, which was presided over by Cuban President Raul Castro and attended by more than half a million city dwellers.

A new feature of the parade was the presence of workers from the emerging private sector on the island.

The capital city mobilization was attended nearly 2,000 international representatives from unions and solidarity organizations from 117 countries.
