Shuffle in Cuba’s Union Leadership

HAVANA TIMES – The National Council of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC) decided to “liberate” their second secretary Angel Morffi Losada, after 23 years as a union official, the weekly Trabajadores reported on Monday.

In his place, the Council designated Carmen Rosa Lopez Rodriguez, 46, who has an experience of over 20 years as a union leader and politician. She has been a member of the Cuban parliament since 2003, and is an active member of the Communist Party.

Without giving the reasons for Morffi’s dismissal, the note recognized him for his “discipline and dedication” and said he “will be assigned other duties” without giving the reasons that explain the dismissal.

The CTC is the only union federation allowed in Cuba.
