Spain Appoints New Ambassador to Havana

HAVANA TIMES — The new Ambassador of Spain in Cuba, Juan Francisco Montalban Carrasco, on Tuesday presented his credentials to the vice president of the Council of State, Gladys Bejerano, reported the EFE news agency.

Montalban, who was appointed two months ago to the post of ambassador to Cuba, was previously in charge of the Spanish embassies in El Salvador and Bolivia. At the time of his appointment he was a delegate to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Montalban replaces Manuel Cacho, the ambassador to the island since October 2008, who was considered one of the closest collaborators of Miguel Angel Moratinos when he was Spain’s foreign minister (2004-2010), noted EFE.
