Trump Bans Raul Castro and Family from Visiting the USA

HAVANA TIMES – The United States sanctioned Cuban leader Raul Castro, as the Trump administration ratchets up its pressure on Havana, reports dpa news on Thursday.

The sanctions, announced by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, mean Castro will not be allowed to enter the US. The ban also affects his immediate family, which would include his daughter Mariela Castro who has made several trips to the United States, mainly to speak on gay rights issues and to promote closer US-Cuba ties.

The move, allegedly for gross violation of human rights, is the latest step to reverse a warming of ties between the historic adversaries initiated during the administration of former US president Barack Obama.

In May, the US had announced economic measures against Cuba, including limiting remittances to the island.

Pompeo also tied the new measures to Cuba’s support for Venezuela.

  • Well, without a paternity test we’ll never know for certain. Justin’s “legal” father, Pierre Elliott T., did know at least some Spanish.
I was living in Canada at the time of Pierre’s famous visit to Cienfuegos in 1976.

  • That’s why so many Cubans of African heritage were so happy to serve Fidel as cannon fodder in his megalomaniacal adventure in Angola (from which many never returned).

  • In the case of margaret Sinclair Trudeau, that love for Cuba was literal! lol

  • Much though the deceased ‘News of the World’ published weekly scandals, there was often accuracy in its reporting. But for Fidel, womanizing was an integral part of his life and I have listed a full dozen of his children – none however was named Justin – who knows, was I in omission?
Justin Trudeau is bilingual French/English, I don’t know whether he also inherited Spanish, but he certainly lauded Fidel, when writing to (uncle?) Raul.

  • Because Mariela has sufficient personal assets and wealth in Cuba that she’s not likely to seek to emigrate to canada!

  • Indeed! Both families are among the world’s wealthiest, at least according to “Fortune” magazine’s rankings!

  • I’ve read of it in several sources.
Remembering what I do about Margaret Trudeau from her publicity heydey, I think that it’s a no-brainer that she would have loved to have bedded “El Lider Maximo”, and maybe had a baby for him !

  • I think that Justin would show his real father (El Lider maximo) more respect than that! LOL

  • My favourite mixed drink! LOL

  • Mr MacD,
I had heard of the Margaret Trudeau/Mick Jagger link. It is actually suggested that her favours were perhaps bestowed upon more than just the one Rolling Stone.
I had not previously heard about the Fidel Castro link or that Fidel is even rumoured to be Justin’s dad. Remarkable.
The Havana Times Gossip Column huh ?

  • I thought that The United Nations Headquarters was a neutral place where States entities could meet , argue and discuss differences. Is our profit driven economies-developed countries- the reason why the less developed countries carry less weight when it comes to ‘ hearings ‘ of a global nature such as commerce, pandemics, climate change, hunger, international crime organizations, deforestation, seas rising, forced migration and wars . Make any State Great could lead us to further devastation, only for a short gain to the particulars and an ego shot to half-witted national politicians of any stripe.

  • Thank you Luis Rondon Paz for speaking out again about the reality and hypocrisy of Diputado Mariela Castro Espin’s true position and actual actions! You know the truth!

  • Nick, Justin Trudeau loves nothing more than a photo-op and will go to great lengths to obtain one. Currently his Liberal Party is endeavoring to excuse him for his several different face-darkening episode. “It was twenty years ago.” – actually eighteen. “He was only young.” Young enough to have graduated from university and to be teaching at a private school.
His late father avoided military service during the Second World War, riding around Montreal on a motorbike wearing a German military helmet.
But, to give credit, Justin is good looking having inherited his good looks from his mother born Margaret Sinclair, who as xenonman (above) indicates was liberal with her favours – ask Mick Jagger.

  • keep dreaming on that, even if trump goes down Cuba will continue under a dictatorship rule and even more corrupt because they have total control of the country.

  • You should read this before star welcome to Her, and talking about cuban people… that i hope is not the people that smile all the time in Cayo Largo and other resorts that, by the way, belongs to the Cuban dictatorship. And most of its emploids are trained to track every step you make and where you go, especially if you are Cuban.
Of course welcome to Canada, if Most of Canadians that visit Cuba, are treated like Kings and Queens.
anyway, read this article and get informed better about whats going on in Cuba.

  • Castro & Maduro Both For a Visit To U”S”A, Never To Return. Begging of New Life for Cuba & Venezuela. And Take Justin,s White Ass as Well. How is it that just about any Nation Can Visit Canada Excluding Cuban,s.

  • To the last writer.bravo we do love cubans but cant stand commy acts against its people, impeach trump and all will be well in cuba again

  • Cuba is a racially mixed country.
There are a great many Cubans of African heritage. This heritage forms a fundamental part of historical and modern Cuba.
So if Justin Trudeau welcomed a Cuban delegation in Canada, would he darken his face to an appropriate shade to make them feel at home ?

  • Fidel castro may even be the true biological father of canada’s current Prime minister!

  • Who knows mare about corruption than the totalitarian Castro administration? Raul Castro and his family certainly won’t lose any sleep as long as they retain power and control by repression, over the people of Cuba.

  • You certainly have a great sense of humour Gerry M. Yes Viva Cuba Libre!

  • Read the article Curt, the answer to your question is Mariela Castro Espin. Regarding corruption, birds of a feather flock together – so putting the Castros and Trump together has a degree of logic.

  • I’m sure Raul and his family aren’t losing any sleep. Who wants to visit a corrupt country with a such a screwed up administration anyway?

  • Yes, Canada loves Cuba and its people, but detests communism as practiced by the Castro dictatorship under the current dictator Raul Castro Ruz.
Pat will recall the outrage in Canada following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lauding Fidel Castro in his letter of sympathy following Fidel Castro’s death, to Raul Castro – supposedly on behalf of the people of Canada. In the subsequent justified criticisms, both in the Canadian parliament, in the media and by the general public, Justin Trudeau eventually – and with marked reluctance, admitted publicly, that:
“Yes, Fidel Castro was a dictator.”
Pat may claim that “We” would be honoured by a visit by Mariela Castro Espin who is a Deputy in the rubber stamping Poder Popular operated by the Communist Party of Cuba, but she is using the Queen’s perogative of the Royal “We”, certainly not reflecting the view of Canadians in general.
The popularity of communism in Canada is demonstrated by there not being a single communist Member of Parliament although the Communist Party of Canada runs candidates.
Canada turned down my wife’s applications for a TRV, five times – why would they issue one to Mariela Castro Espin?

  • We are coming round to that traditional time of year when representatives of all the countries that make up the UN condemn the US embargo.
The USA, under trump, will show it’s annual disdain for global democracy.

How long does the impeachment process take anyway?
And has this disgraceful trump individual finally been nailed??

  • The Castro family would be warmly welcomed in Canada. I agree with the previous post that we love Cuba and its citizens. Viva Cuba! ????

  • Come to Canada. We love Cuba and its people and would be honored with a visit.
