UN Votes Today on US Blockade of Cuba

HAVANA TIMES – The United Nations General Assembly  votes today on a resolution calling for the end of the half century US blockade against Cuba, although the vote is without any enforcement mecanism.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez arrived Monday to New York to intervene in the plenary.

In the recent high-level debate of the General Assembly, held from September 24th to October 1^st, some fifty leaders spoke out against the blockade calling it genocide, illegal, unfair and a relic of the Cold War.

Every year since 1992, the majority of the delegations rejected the aggressive extraterritorial US policy against the island. In 2012, the resolution was adopted by 188 countries , 3 against (US, Israel , Palau) and two abstentions (Micronesia and Marshall Islands).
