HAVANA TIMES — The US State Department came out on Tuesday in support on of the decision by the Nicaraguan government of Daniel Ortega to close its border to thousands of Cuban migrants.
According to the Nuevo Herald of Miami, the State Department said: “All of the countries have the responsibility to put in effect the requirements for necessary documentation and the control mechanisms on their borders. This prevents the transit of travelers without documents and for the undocumented to be sent back to their point of origin, in accordance with legislation and international practices.”

Looked at another way: migrants show courage and initiative in trying to reach a country where, they believe, their own work will make them better off.
But these are precisely the people Cuba needs to grow its economy. So the faster Cuba changes into a country where such people feel they can prosper, the quicker these problems will disappear.
