Venezuela to Erect “Peace Base” in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 23 – The government of Venezuela will open tomorrow its first “Peace Base” in Cuba, a center “for debating ideas on the situation in Latin America, to reject violence and the installation of U.S. military bases in South America.”

The facility will function in the Bolivarian Informatics and Telematics Center in the Cuban capital, reported IPS.  The name Bolivarian comes from the legacy of 19th century South American Independence leader Simon Bolivar.

The initiative is Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’ response to the agreement between the United States and Colombia on the installation of military bases in Colombia, considered by Caracas as destabilizing and  unnecessary for the region.
