HAVANA TIMES – The Havana carnival began on August 9 with the traditional parade down the Malecon sea wall with dance troupes, floats, bigger than life size dolls, a showing of classic autos and the police with their motorcycle acrobatics.

elio2The main carnival days will take place over two weekends with numerous music/dance activities planned during the week no only on the Malecon, but also in parks and plazas of the different municipalities that make up the capital city.

elio3The parades this year include the traditional dance schools like the Guaracheros de Regla as well as others from Bejucal and Santiago de Cuba.

Here are some pictures from the opening carnival evening.
