Cuba-US Volleyball Face-Off Saturday

HAVANA TIMES, Oct. 17 – Cuba and the USA meet Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. in the finals of the NORECA Men’s Continental Championship being played in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

The winner gets a ticket to the International Volleyball Federations Men’s World Grand Champions Cup in Japan in November.

To get to the final match up, Cuba won in straight sets over Canada in its semifinal play on Friday (25-22, 25-16 and 25-21), while the US beat host Puerto Rico (25-16, 25-23 and 25-22).

Cuba was led by Yoandy Leal (l5 points) and Wifredo Leon (l4). The US offense against Puerto Rico was topped by David Lee (l5 points) and William Priddy (l3).

Team USA has won the last three NORECA events and has seven titles in its 20 history to Cuba’s 13 titles.
