Cuban Divers Take Gold in Grand Prix de Madrid
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban divers Jose Antonio Guerra and Jeinkler Aguirre won the gold medal in the 10-meter synchronized platform diving competition on Sunday at the Grand Prix de Madrid competition, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Guerra and Aguirre achieved the victory with 435.12 points, just ahead of Mexican divers Ivan Garcia and Germain Sanchez (432.24) and the Chinese athletes Chen Aisen and Yang Jian (428.10).
The islanders also competed in individual platform competition on Friday, where the youngest, Jeinkler Aguirre, won the bronze medal with 467.70 points, surpassed only by the China’s Chen Aisen (536.20) and Yang Jian (507.95).
The title confirms the stability of the duo after their having won the crown in Montreal (453.36), thus breaking the Chinese hegemony over the sport just a little more than a month before acid test of the Olympic Games in London.
