HAVANA TIMES, Dec 28 — Cuban All-Star pitcher Norge Luis Vera has demonstrated “quite favorable” improvement, though he remains in “very serious condition” after suffering injuries in a traffic accident last week, said his doctor on state television in Santiago de Cuba.
Vera was said to have awaken Monday morning in a “tranquil” condition, from the neurological point of view, after being taken off of artificial respiration equipment, said the specialist. The doctor reiterated that the athlete’s vital parameters are “within normal limits” and that his “consciousness remains lucid.”
Vera, 40, is one of the best Cuban pitchers of all time. He had officially announced his retirement this past September.
