Silvio Rodriguez to Perform for Anniversary of Chilean Communist Party
HAVANA TIMES — The Communist Party of Chile confirmed on Thursday the participation of Cuban singer Silvio Rodriguez at the centenary celebrations of the organization, December 8th at the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Also present will be Chilean artists, including Manuel Garcia, Jorge Coulon and Roberto Marquez.
Rodriguez’s first trip to Chile was in 1972, during the government of President Salvador Allende, whose overthrow in a military coup also resulted in the Cuban singer’s records being banned in that country. After the departure of dictator Augusto Pinochet from power, Silvio returned to Chile in 1990 and in succeeding years.
