Cuba-El Salvador sign cooperation agreements

The governments of Cuba and El Salvador signed three cooperation agreements in the fields of health, education and culture as part of the official visit to the island by Mauricio Funes, president of that Central American country, the island’s state-run press reported. During the signing ceremony it was announced that an official Salvadoran delegation would travel soon to the island to continue studying in depth relations between the two countries.

US Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd began this weekend a visit to Cuba with the aim of exploring means to improve bilateral relations, IPS reported on Wednesday citing the Miami-based El Nuevo Herald. Dodd has been one of the principal promoters of a change of policy toward the island, which includes lifting the embargo and restrictions on travel to the Caribbean island nation.

Relatives of victims send letter to Obama

The Committee of Relatives of the victims of the bombing of a Cuban plane in Barbados sent a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama in which they requested the release of the five Cubans imprisoned in the U.S. charged with espionage and asked for the sentencing of Luis Posada Carriles, the author of the attack on the Cuban aircraft in 1976.
