Havana lacks an important element these days: informal vendors who, in parks and doorways, offer everything from matches to soft drinks…

As I do almost every Sunday, I went out to forage for the week’s food. The Egido market was nearly empty and with sky-high prices.

Today’s featured artist is Cuban bassist Orlando “Cachaito” Lopez with a live performance of the song “Wahira” from the album “Cachaito” (2001).

He would join us everywhere: the Rolling Stones concert, the 16th St. beach, the staircase at the Chaplin movie theater, in any dead-beat bar

Since 2021, over 700 citizens were sentenced for sedition & civil disobedience, the largest mass trials since the beginning of the revolution

The government media says this type of operation enjoys “popular backing” because these people “profit from the needs of others.”

There is much to see in this peaceful place. With my photo feature I give you a small sample of its solemn beauty and seclusion…

This ’mash-up’ demonstrates that the demands for liberty continue to resonate, from Havana to Teheran hoping the world might take notice.
