The pilots of Air Europa asked the Spanish airline to stop flying to Venezuela, as other European companies did, or to prevent crews from having to spend the night in the country, the SEPLA pilots’ union said on Friday.

The United States today imposed sanctions on eight more Venezuelan officials, all related to the recently installed Constituent Assembly and among whom is the older brother of the late President Hugo Chavez.

Seventeen American countries have condemned the “democratic rupture of Venezuela’s democratic order” and said that they will not recognize measures that the recently-elected Constitutional Assembly adopts in this country, because of “its illegitimate nature”. At the same time, the ALBA alliance gave its full support to President Maduro.

Venezuelan security forces were still looking for a supposed rebel group today who had attacked a military base in the center of the country and had managed to get a hold of weapons.

Venezuelan military and government officials said on Sunday they had quashed an uprising against President Nicolas Maduro by a rebel group, which took place in a fort in the center of the country and reportedly left seven detainees, including the leader of the uprising.

The National Constituent Assembly of Venezuela, a plenipotentiary body controlled by the ruling party, today in its first action dismissed Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz, a leading voice in recent months of those opposed to the policies of President Maduro, including the violent repression of protesters.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, was installed his Constituent Assembly today as a plenipotentiary body, amid the rejection of the opposition and a group of countries, to which the Vatican joined. It will begin legislating tomorrow Saturday.

The National Constituent Assembly promoted by Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, with the mission of virtually reestablishing the Republic, will be instated on Friday in what will be a great political wager full of risks amid accusations of votes being manipulated.

Venezuela’s Attorney General, Luisa Ortega Diaz, called upon the Venezuelan people to not recognize the “presumed result” of the National Constituent Assembly election, which took place on Sunday. International rejection for President Nicolas Maduro’s project to alter the Constitution also continues to grow.

The Cuban government today denounced an “international operation” against Venezuela stemming from the United States to ignore the results of Sunday’s National Constituent Assembly, termed an extraordinary victory by President Maduro.
