Obama Makes Tepid Call for Change in US Policy on Cuba

Without mentioning any specifics US President Barack Obama called Friday for a revision of US policies towards Cuba. In an address to a fundraiser in Miami Obama said, “We have to be creative and we have to be thoughtful and we have to continue to update our policies.”

Cuba Wins Vote at the UN but…

For the twenty-second consecutive year, the UN General Assembly urged the United States today to lift its more than half century embargo against Cuba. However, the resolution has no mechanism for enforcement or sanctions on the United States if it ignores the call. The vote rejecting the embargo was approved by 188 votes in favor and only two against – United States and Israel, and with the abstention of Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands.

Cuba Visited by UN Investigators on Weapons Found on North Korean Ship

UN Security Council sanctions committee experts were in Havana last week to meet with senior government officials. It is expected that the report on the case of the controversial cargo of 240 tons of Cuban military equipment will be issued in the coming days and sent to the Security Council to assess possible sanctions against Cuba.
