23 Cubans Sent Home by US Coast Guard

Twenty-three Cubans trying to illegally leave their country were picked up by the US Coast Guard and returned to the island, reported AP. If they had reached land anywhere on US territory they would have received welcoming assistance and a fast track to permanent residency.

Cuba Ballet Great Fernando Alonso Dies

Fernando Alonso, dancer and grand maestro del ballet cubano, passed away in Havana on Saturday at the age of 98. Fernando founded the Ballet Nacional de Cuba along with his wife, ballerina Alicia Alonso, who still directs it.

Fidel Castro Writes on July 26th Anniversary

Castro recounts the unfolding of events on the 26th of July, 1953 when the rebels attacked both the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the Manuel Cespedes garrison in Bayamo. Near the end of his message, Fidel comments briefly on the Cuban arms found on a North Korean ship trying to pass through the Panama Canal.
