Cuba Advances in World Volleyball League

HAVANA TIMES, July 3 — While the Cuban baseball team underachieves in Rotterdam, the island’s men’s volleyball players came up with a remarkable 3-0 sweep of group leader Italy on Friday to earn a slot in the Final Round of the World Volleyball League being played in Poland.

The hard fought victory (25-21, 25-20, 27-25) lifted Cuba over Serbia on points to make the big eight teams that begin the Final Round this coming Wednesday.

Henry Bell led Cuba with 19 points followed by 12 by Fernando Hernández and 10 from Wilfredo Leon.

The other teams making it into the Final Round, to be played over five days from July 6-10), are: Brazil, Bulgaria, Argentina, USA, Poland, Italy, Russia and Cuba.
