Cuban Catholics Hold Mass for Pope

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban Catholics held a Mass at the Havana Cathedral on Tuesday thanking Pope Benedict XVI for his efforts. The Pope announced his resignation two weeks ago, the first head of the Vatican to do so in over five centuries.

The Mass was presided over by the Papal Nuncio in Cuba, Monsignor Bruno Musaro, noted Prensa Latina.

Similar ceremonies have taken place in various dioceses on the island, where Joseph Ratzinger was welcomed in March of last year.

Earlier, the head of the Archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Ortega, had issued a note in which he described the Pope’s decision to give up the highest responsibility within the Catholic Church as a “wonderful gesture of humility.”
