The Trials of Cuba’s July 11th Protest Prisoners

Six months after the events, we are seeing rigged trials in which long sentences are requested for those who protested peacefully.

In this work we show some of these signs and posters that exist today in Havana. Some are commercial others are political. (43 pictures)

This negative response comes after almost a year since thousands of people linked to the sector called for this activity to be legalized.

“Two decades of arbitrary detention without trial accompanied by torture or ill treatment is simply unacceptable for any government…”

This was a song by Los Van Van, back in the ‘80s. It was about the phenomenon of Cubans migrating to the capital from the country’s interior.

In 2019, a good friend of mine traveled to Spain to visit her daughter in Madrid. It was a trip they’d both been longing for.

We can’t make radical structural changes in Cuba now without first producing institutional and political changes that are just as radical.

Five more Guantánamo Bay prisoners have been approved for release. None have ever been charged with a crime.
