Fidel Castro’s new book on guerrilla days

A book by Fidel Castro titled “The Strategic Victory,” which narrates passages of the guerrilla war that in the summer of 1958 marked “the irreversible turning point” in favor of the Rebel Army, will be in circulation soon. In a “Reflection” published this Tuesday, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution explained that he worked for months on the subject after his serious illness and now he is “in good spirits” to continue writing the second part of that book.

Science for Development

Cuba has 220 science and technology centers, an institutional foundation that has allowed it to achieve transcendental results such as the Va-Mengoc-BC vaccine, the first and only effective one in the world against group B meningococcus, winner of the Gold Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organization. Fernando González, first deputy minister of science, technology and the environment, said that the fundamental pillar of national scientific policy is the cooperation and integration of all the institutions, which includes the application and generalization of the achievements in the country.

Cuba & Venezuela Expand Cooperation

Cuban President Raúl Castro headed this Monday the summit meeting of his country and Venezuela, held at a beach resort in the central province of Villa Clara, to boost bilateral relations with a view to the Economic Union. The meeting ended with more than 100 signed projects that will allow for the expansion of bilateral cooperation and commercial exchange. Venezuela is Cuba’s leading trade partner.

Fidel Castro Visits Revolution Square

Wearing his olive green uniform, former President Fidel Castro this Monday placed a wreath at the base of the enormous white marble monument to Cuban independence hero José Martí in Revolution Square and later spoke with a group of intellectuals, including some journalists from the official media. The new public presentation of the recovered historic leader of the Cuban Revolution coincided with the 57th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks, commemorated in the central city of Santa Clara. Fidel Castro did not attend the commemoration.

Cuba’s July 26 Event Live on Internet

Monday is National Rebellion Day in Cuba, commemorating attacks on two garrisons back in 1953 that sparked the Cuban revolution that toppled the dictator Batista five and a half years later. The Cuban press announced on Sunday that the keynote speech will be delivered by President Raul Castro. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Cubavision Internacional starting at 7:30 a.m. EST.

Cuba received during the first half of this year 13,519 more tourists than the same period in 2009, which confirms the upward tendency of one of the principal sources of financial resources of this Caribbean country. According to data of the National Office of Statistics (ONE), up to the close of June a total of 1,389,712 visitors arrived, for a one per cent growth.
