El Salvador: Over 2,000 Arrested Under State of Emergency

President Nayib Bukele says authorities have arrested over 2,000 people since a state of emergency was imposed following a violent weekend.

Shouts and slogans in the cells, they sing the national anthem, and demand freedom and the end of the torture and isolation.

“The violence was on the part of the authorities because the whole time we were being beaten, even with sticks and pepper spray.”
