Despite Obama’s pledge to close the facility as one of his first acts after taking office in 2008, there are still 91 prisoners there, 35 of whom have been cleared for release. Republicans in Congress have repeatedly obstructed his attempts to close the prison.

Cuba will mobilize more than 9,000 troops of its armed forces to combat the Zika virus, announced President Raul Castro on Monday. The campaign to fight the mosquito that carries the virus was announced in the official newspaper.

Barack Obama will travel to Cuba on March 21-22 on the first visit by a US president to the island in nearly 90 years. He will meet with Raul Castro, business people and other members of civil society. No mention was made on whether he would pay a visit to former leader Fidel Castro.
