Luxury Resorts for Cuba’s “New Man”

The report showed an ad for a high-class tourist resort located near Cuba’s Guanahacabibes peninsula, in the province of Pinar del Rio, designed for the use and enjoyment of multimillionaires. This is probably less believable for members of the opposition, dissidents or those who are simply disillusioned with the Cuban revolution than for the architects of this cruel and enormous lie.

40 Years After Chile Coup, Family of Slain Singer Víctor Jara Sues Alleged Killer in U.S. Court

This week marks the 40th anniversary of what’s known as the other 9/11: September 11, 1973, when a U.S.-backed military coup ousted Chile’s democratically elected president Salvador Allende and ushered in a 17-year repressive dictatorship led by General Augusto Pinochet. Fernando Alonso, dancer and grand maestro del ballet cubano, passed away in Havana on Saturday at the age of 98. Fernando founded the Ballet Nacional de Cuba along with his wife, ballerina Alicia Alonso, who still directs it.

Havana’s Dispossessed

Like any other city in the world, Havana is not without underprivileged individuals living in abject poverty who barely manage to survive every day, particularly near the end of their days. We must acknowledge the many things done in Cuba to help the disabled, children, young people and the elderly. These things, however, are apparently not enough. (23 photos)
