HAVANA TIMES — It’s the custom of the Cuban government to fix the streets and paint the facades of buildings where important dignitaries will be driving by during their visits to Havana. On Thursday we captured some of the final preparations on Reina St. for the visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry and his large delegation, on hand Friday for the hoisting of the flag at the newly reopened US embassy in the Cuban capital.

  • A neat explanation of the difference between leaving the decision to choice of the individual in democratic Canada and compulsion in socialist Cuba. Well done!

  • I remember that 2….but don’t remember any paint

  • I remember the Empire Games of 1954. Most events were in Vancouver, but rowing events were out at the Vedder Canal, near where I lived Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinbourgh, came out. I recall someone telling my father that people on the route that he travelled were given free paint to spruce up their houses.
