Putting a Face on Cuba’s Political Prisoners: Taimir Garcia

Taimir Garcia has been in jail for over two years. She was sentenced on April 21 2021, to five years in prison for demonstrating in Las Tunas.

Hot and high probability of rain in Havana afternoons… The high temperatures will be between 32 and 34ºC (90 and 93 F).

I wake up slowly until I manage to shake off the confusion & enter the present, like all the other times I’ve dreamt about her over the years.

They are just a short distance away from the tourist destination of Varadero, although visitors have no reason to learn about these realities.

I do so while still enjoying the ability to express my desire to exercise my right to end my life in a free and dignified manner.

I don’t like an ugly picture painted of my country, but it’s the truth. Tourists’ photos are beautiful, but our day-to-day isn’t very idyllic.

The private sector & USD-equivalent prices are the future here, there’s no other choice, & it’s inevitable that many will suffer along the way

God help me! The only option left to the Cuban president appears to be a “pact with the devil.”
